Days before October ends, Google has given us the latest Android platform distribution stats for the month.
Google's Android platform distribution numbers measure which versions of Android were used to access the Play Store during a 7-day period, in this case the one ending on October 26. During that time, Android Oreo was on 21.5 percent of devices.
Next up is Android Nougat, which was powering 28.2 percent of devices that accessed the Play Store. Android Marshmallow claimed a 21.3 percent share of devices, while Android Lollipop was on 17.9 percent of devices. Android KitKat appeared on 7.6 percent of devices that accessed the Play Store.
Android Jelly Bean claimed a 3.0 percent share of devices, and Android Ice Cream Sandwich claimed 0.3 percent of devices that used the Play Store. Rounding things out is Android Gingerbread, which claimed a 0.2 percent piece of the pie.
Speaking of pie, there's no Android Pie present in Google's report. Google says that any versions of Android with less than 0.1 percent distribution aren't included in its report, so it's possible that Android Pie simply hasn't made its way to enough devices yet to appear on these reports. Here's to hoping that changes next month.
It's good to see Android Oreo usage continue to grow, and it's now the second most-used version of Android, surpassing Marshmallow. It may not be the most up-to-date version of Android, but it's not far behind, meaning more folks are getting access to the newer features that Oreo has to offer.
