OnePlus 5 and 5T get Project Treble with OxygenOS 5.1.5 update

OnePlus 5T hands-on review

OnePlus began pushing OxygenOS 5.1.5 updates to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T this week, and it looks like the updates have a hidden surprise.

According to OnePlus, the OxygenOS 5.1.5 update for the OnePlus 5 and 5T includes the August 2018 Android security patches and support for confirming your PIN without tapping the check to unlock the phone. Owners have discovered that the update also adds support for Project Treble.

Project Treble was announced by Google in 2017 as a way to try and help Android device makers push software updates to their phones more quickly. With it, the device-specific software is separated from the core Android OS framework. OnePlus said last year that it wouldn't bring Treble to any of its existing devices, but it appears to have changed its minds.

OxygenOS 5.1.5 was a nice little update with new security patches and a lock screen improvement, but it becomes way better with Project Treble, so you OnePlus 5 and 5T owners should keep an eye out for it if you haven't gotten the update already. It should be rolling out to phones over the coming days.
