Samsung intros Galaxy J2 Core as its first Android Go phone

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core official Android Go phone

Samsung is officially getting into the Android Go game.

The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is now official as the company's first Android Go smartphone. Specs for the Galaxy J2 Core include a 5-inch 960x540 display, 8MP rear and 5MP front cameras, and 8GB of storage. There's a Samsung Exynos 7570 processor inside the Galaxy J2 Core's shell along with 1GB of RAM and a 2600mAh battery. On the software side, it's running Android Oreo (Go edition).

Samsung says that the Galaxy J2 Core will launch first in Malaysia and India on August 24th, with releases in other markets happening "in the near future". There's no word yet on pricing for the Galaxy J2 Core, but expect it to be an affordable device.

Android Go is meant to offer a smooth experience on entry-level phones. That means new, lightweight apps that take up less storage and improve performance and fewer pre-installed apps. There are also data management apps built-in, like a Data Saver that lets you manage which apps get to use your mobile data and when.

Samsung is one of the world's largest smartphone makers, and so it's good to finally see the company create an Android Go smartphone. With it, the Android Go ecosystem gains another major player and customers interested in an affordable Android Go smartphone get another option.
