Following the debut of the BlackBerry KEY2 earlier this year, two more BlackBerry-branded Android phones have been revealed.
The BlackBerry Evolve and BlackBerry Evolve X were revealed in India today. Unlike the KEY2, which is made by TCL, the Evolve and Evolve X are made by Optiemus Infracom, another company that licenses the BlackBerry brand.
When it comes to specs, the BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X are mid-range handsets. The Evolve has a 5.99-inch 2160x1080 display that's paired with a Snapdragon 450 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It's got a dual rear camera setup with two 13MP sensors, one RGB and one monochrome, as well as a 16MP front-facing camera. Rounding things out is a reaer fingerprint reader, face unlock, and a 4000mAh battery.
The Evolve X is the slightly higher-end model of the two new BlackBerry phones, boasting a Snapdragon 660 processor and 6GB of RAM (both the same as on the KEY2). It's dual rear camera setup is slightly different than the Evolve's, with a 12MP standard lens and a 13MP telephoto lens.
Many of the Evolve X's other specs are the same as on the Evolve, including the 5.99-inch 2160x1080 screen, 64GB of storage, 16MP front camera, fingerprint reader, and face unlock. It's got the same 4000mAh battery, too, but it does have wireless charging, which the Evolve lacks.
The BlackBerry Evolve will launch in India in mid-September with Android 8.1 in tow, and it'll be exclusively available from Amazon India. The Evolve X will arrive a bit earlier, launching at the end of August with Android 8.1. Pricing for the Evolve will be set at Rs 24,990 ($364 USD) while the Evolve X will cost Rs 34,990 ($510 USD).
The Evolve and Evolve X look like interesting new BlackBerry devices. They offer full-screen options for folks that are interested in BlackBerry's apps and security features but don't care for the physical keyboard on the KEY2. And while they're not the most high-end Android phones around, they do offer large screens, plenty of RAM, and beefy batteries.
