Google removes YouTube from Amazon Echo Show

Amazon Echo Show official

Perhaps the highlight feature of the Amazon Echo Show is its 7-inch display, which lets you view videos, video chat, and more. Unfortunately for folks that own an Echo Show, that screen just lost one of its notable features.

The Echo Show can now longer access YouTube. Google made the change yesterday afternoon, according to a statement from Amazon to The Verge. Amazon says that Google made the change “without explanation and without notification to customers,” adding that “there is no technical reason for the decision.”

Meanwhile, Google seems to be placing the blame for this news on Amazon, saying that “Amazon’s implementation of YouTube on the Echo Show violates our terms of service, creating a broken user experience.” Google adds that it’s been in negotiations with Amazon for a while, working on a deal that creates a good experience for all customers. “We hope to be able to reach an agreement and resolve these issues soon,” Google says.

The news of YouTube being pulled from the Echo Show is disappointing for multiple reasons. Not only did the service get pulled without any alert to Echo Show owners, but now those folks have lost access to the biggest video service on the web, which could be useful for things like cooking videos on the Echo Show.

It’s unclear exactly what exactly the hold-up here is, but hopefully the two companies are able to reach an agreement soon.
