The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P haven’t been the stars of Google’s smartphone lineup for awhile now, but today there’s some good news for folks that continue to use one of those Nexus phones as their daily driver.
Google has extended the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P’s window for guaranteed security updates. Previously, Google said that there would be no guaranteed security updates for the 5X and 6P beyond September 2018, but today Google’s support page says that those phones will get security updates through November 2018.
It’s unclear why Google has extended its window of guaranteed security updates for the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, but it’s a welcome change nonetheless. Security updates are important because they help to keep all of the data on your smartphone safe, and now folks that continue to use the 5X and 6P through next year can know that their phone will be secure for an extra couple of months.
