Essential has announced a new update for the Essential Phone that's based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The update is build OPM1.180104.141 and includes the April 2018 Android Security patches, improved performance, and more.

Here's the official changelog from Essential:

  • Google Security Patches 2018-04
  • Bluetooth 5.0 certified
  • Modem stability fixes
  • Improved performance and bug fixes
  • Proper handling of external game controllers

This update is now rolling out over the air, so you should see it on your Essential Phone in the coming days. It's great to see Essential continue to be one of the fastest Android OEMs out there with regard to security patches, and the Bluetooth 5.0 certification and external game controller improvements are nice icing on the update cake.
