ZTE Axon M official with foldable design and dual 5.2-inch displays

ZTE Axon M foldable dual screen smartphone official

It’s not often that we see new smartphones with form factors that aren’t just  a big slab of a touchscreen, but today that’s what ZTE has announced.

The ZTE Axon M is a foldable dual-screen Android smartphone. It’s got two 5.2-inch 1920x1080 displays, one on the front of the phone and one on the back, and you can flip the Axon M to combine the two screens to form one large display.

ZTE says that there are four screen modes that the Axon M has to offer:

  • Dual Mode: Run two apps at once, one on each display
  • Extended Mode: Use the entirety of the 6.75-inch combined display for a single app
  • Mirror Mode: Watch the same content on both screens so that you and a friend can sit across from each other and each watch the same thing
  • Traditional Mode: Use the Axon M folded up like a normal smartphone

Because the Axon M has screens on its front and back, it’s got a single 20-megapixel camera rather than one camera on the front and one on the rear. This camera packs a Sony IMX360 sensor with PDAF, an f/1.8 aperture, and dual image stabilization for photo and video.

ZTE’s Axon M is also equipped with a Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a microSD slot. It’s got a 3180mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, too, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack and dual speakers. The Axon M comes with Android 7.1.2 out of the box.

The ZTE Axon M will launch exclusively with AT&T in the U.S. It’ll be available “in the next month” at a price of $24.17 per month for 30 months ($725 total). ZTE will also offer the Axon M in China, Europe, and Japan.

While the Axon M isn’t the first dual-screen foldable smartphone we’ve ever seen, it is still an interesting device in a sea of slabs. It’s not exactly cheap, but it is unique and it’s got a decent spec list to go with its unusual form factor. So if you like your devices to stand out, the ZTE Axon M may be worth a look.
