When Google announced the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL earlier this month, it detailed the Google Lens feature for searching with photos. Now that feature is starting to make its way to the original Pixel phones, too.
Reddit user LaceratedCantaloupe recently spotted Google Lens in the Google Photos app on their Pixel XL. The feature appeared without any kind of Play Store update, suggesting that Google activated it server-side. Some other Pixel and Pixel XL owners got Google Lens, too, but some still don’t have it.
This version of Google Lens that’s rolling out is labeled as “Pixel preview”, so know that it’s still in early testing.
Google Lens will let you learn more about the world around you using your phone’s camera. For example, you can point your camera at a landmark to learn more about it, or look up details on a book, movie, or piece of art. You can also use Google Lens to copy text like phone numbers, dates, and addresses that you see out in the world.
