At 12:01 AM PDT today, Apple opened the floodgates. October 27, 2017, is officially iPhone pre-order day. And, as is par for the course with this day of days, a lot of stock was pre-ordered right out of the gate. In about 30 minutes shipping dates for both of the iPhone X variants slipped to five to six weeks from Apple directly, with the same being the case for retail partners.
If you look hard enough, you might be able to find options out there that won't take until December to arrive on your doorstep. A cursory glance from the wireless carriers in the United States shows that some variants, namely the 64GB Silver model, are available to deliver before the end of November.
Some might even show up on November 3, the official launch day.
Apple made an official statement regarding the pre-order furor, saying that demand has been "off the charts." Which, by all accounts, I'm sure it was. With so much talk about how the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are great phones people should probably skip, of course people have been waiting for the iPhone X to go up for pre-order.
And, what's more, it doesn't look like the price tag has scared folks away.
That pre-order window shrinks very quickly, but as many people will tell you, it's the safest bet to try and get an iPhone at launch day. It also means you don't have to wait in a line, which is always nice. Unfortunately, depending on your location it means you have to either stay up or set an alarm. It's a less-than-ideal situation, to be sure, but it's over just as quickly as it started for most people.
Pre-orders will continue throughout the week until Friday, November 3, arrives and the phone goes on sale. It will be interesting to see how long shipping estimates are pushed back. Apple has also confirmed that its Apple retail stores, along with its third-party retailer and wireless carrier partners will have stock on launch day. But that number is usually pretty low.
