Honor’s family of affordable X phones is growing again today with the debut of the Honor 7X.
The Honor 7X jumps on the trend of smartphones with 18:9 displays, packing a 5.93-inch screen with a resolution of 2160x1080. It’s in on the dual rear camera trend, too — though the Honor 6X also had dual rear cameras — packing 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel rear cameras that you can use to add blurry backgrounds to your photos.
Honor’s new 7X is powered by an octa-core Kirin 659 processor that’s been paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB of storage. There’s also a microSD slot if you need more storage beyond what’s included. Rounding out the Honor 7X’s hardware specs is a 3340mAh battery, 8-megapixel front camera, and rear fingerprint reader, all packed into a metal body.
On the software side, the Honor 7X runs Android 7.0 below Huawei’s custom EMUI 5.1 user interface. It includes features like a night mode that’ll reduce blue light coming from the screen, which may make using the 7X at night easier on your eyes.
The Honor 7X will start at RMB 1299 ($197 USD) for the 32GB model and go up to RMB 1699 ($256 USD) for the 64GB model and RMB 1999 ($304 USD) for the 128GB variant. Honor’s new phone will launch in China on October 17th.
This new Honor 7X looks like a solid upgrade to the Honor 6X that launched in early 2017. It’s got a larger display that fits in the 18:9 trend that we’re seeing a lot of in smartphones lately, an upgraded processor, and more RAM, all while staying in the affordable price range. There’s no word on when or if the Honor 7X will make its way outside of China, but it could be an interesting option for folks in the market for an affordable smartphone if it does.
