One of the new features of iOS 11 is Do Not Disturb While Driving, which can detect when you’re in a vehicle and automatically activate Do Not Disturb so that you’re not bothered by notifications. Now it looks like Google’s new Pixel phones are getting a similar feature.
A new Google app called Pixel Ambient Services recently appeared on the Play Store, and it enables the feature that’ll identify a song on your always-on display. The screenshots in the app listing also show a “Driving” section that you can toggle on.
When activated, the rule “automatically turns on Do Not Disturb while you’re in a moving vehicle.” Google explains that the phone determines this “by device motion and Bluetooth connections,” likely when your phone is connected to a Bluetooth car stereo.
This feature could be pretty handy, automatically silencing notifications on your phone while you’re driving so you don’t have to worry about doing it manually every time you get behind the wheel. It could also get kind of annoying if you’re the passenger in a car, but perhaps you can just switch off Do Not Disturb mode if that happens. You can also disable the feature altogether if you want.
