Essential Phone updated with camera improvements and bug fixes

Essential Phone hands-on review

Essential has been working to improve the Essential Phone since the device’s launch, especially with regard to camera performance, and today those efforts continue with new updates.

Essential says that it’s now pushing a new system build (NMI81C) and a camera app update to the Essential Phone. Once you’ve received both updates, these are the improvements that you can expect to see:

  • Boosted capture speed in regular and low light to below 1 second (over 40% faster)
  • Improved brightness and performance in low-light
  • Spatial sound when shooting in 360 (supported on device, Facebook and YouTube)
  • Use volume up/down keys as shutter buttons in 360 mode
  • Countdown timer when in 360 camera mode
  • Bug fixes and overall reliability improvements

Essential today also teased some of the other Essential Phone improvements that it’s working on. They include more HDR enhancements, live 360 streaming to Facebook and Periscope, animate 360 stills and filters, Portrait Mode, and Pro Mode.
