A new month means new Android distribution numbers from Google, and today there’s a new version on the chart.

Google has posted its Android distribution stats for October 2017, which details the different versions of Android that were used to access the Play Store during the 7-day period ending October 2nd. Android 8.0 Oreo appears for the first time this month, appearing on 0.2 percent of devices.

Android Nougat (7.0 and 7.1) usage grew from last month, going from 15.8 percent in September to 17.8 percent in October. All other versions dropped in usage or held steady compared to last month.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow slipped to 32 percent usage in October, while Android Lollipop (5.0 and 5.1) fell to 27.7 percent usage. Android 4.4 KitKat fell to 14.5 percent usage and Android Jelly Bean dropped to 6.6 percent usage. Rounding things out is Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3 and 4.0.4) and Android Gingerbread (2.3.3-2.3.7) held steady at 0.6 percent.

It’s not surprising that Android 8.0 Oreo is starting out so low here since it’s only available on Nexus and Pixel devices right now. That number should continue to grow in the coming months as new devices launch with Oreo in tow and existing flagships are updated.
