Right on schedule, Xiaomi’s new Android flagship has made its debut.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 was announced in China today. It’s packing a 5.15-inch 1920x1080 display on its face with an 8-megapixel camera above the screen and a fingerprint reader below it.
Around back are two 12-megapixel cameras, one wide-angle with optical image stabilization and one telephoto that’ll let you get two times lossless zoom. With these two cameras, you can use the Mi 6’s portrait mode to get depth of field in your photos.
The Mi 6’s body features curved glass on the front and back with a stainless steel frame sandwiched in between. Xiaomi touts that the Mi 6’s body is splash resistant, too. Inside that body is a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM, 64/128GB of storage, dual SIM slots, dual speakers, a 3350mAh battery, and USB Type-C. One feature that doesn’t appear to be included, though, is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 will launch in China on April 28. Pricing will start at 2499 Chinese Yuan ($363 USD) for the 6GB/64GB model and 2899 Chinese Yuan ($421 USD) for the 6GB/128GB model. Xiaomi also plans to offer a Mi 6 Ceramic edition (shown below) with a ceramic body, 18-karat gold camera rims, and 6GB/128GB for 2999 Chinese Yuan ($435 USD).
Xiaomi’s new Mi 6 looks like a solid flagship. The design is clean and attractive, and the Mi 6 checks almost about every spec that you’d want from a high-end smartphone in 2017. The lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack is sure to bum some people out, but Xiaomi does say that it’s including an adapter in the box, so folks that like their 3.5mm headphones won’t be totally out of luck.
