When Sony introduced us to the Xperia XZs back in February, it said that the Android 7.1 Nougat-powered phone would arrive in April, and it looks like that’ll indeed be the case.
Amazon is now taking pre-orders for the Sony Xperia XZs. The unlocked device is priced at $699 and is available in Black, Ice Blue, and Warm Silver color options. Amazon says that the Xperia XZs will ship on April 5.
The XZs also appears at B&H Photo Video, but there’s no price, launch date, or anything else listed with the phone.
As a reminder, the Xperia XZs runs Android 7.1 Nougat on a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 display. One of its highlight features is its 19-megapixel rear camera with Motion Eye features, which include faster image scanning, 19 percent larger pixels for better low-light performance, and Predictive Capture, which snaps four photos when the camera senses motion but before you’ve hit the shutter button to help ensure that you don’t miss the action. The camera also offers 960fps slow motion video capture.
Other features of the Xperia XZs include a 13-megapixel front-facing camera with wide-angle lens, a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a microSD slot for adding more storage. There’s a 2900mAh battery in there, too, with Quick Charge 3.0 and a USB Type-C port. All of those features are wrapped in a body that’s IP68-rated for dust and water resistance.
One other thing about this Xperia XZs that’s worth noting is that it does not include a fingerprint reader.
The Xperia XZs has a nice decent and a respectable, upper mid-range spec list, but its price tag puts it up against some stiff, higher-end competition. Still, it’s good to see unlocked Sony smartphones being offered in the US for the folks that are into ‘em. If you like Sony phones but would like something a bit higher-end than the Xperia XZs, keep an eye out for the Xperia XZ Premium, which features a 5.5-inch 3840x2160 display and Snapdragon 835 processor and is slated to launch in “late spring.”
