Today’s the day that the Galaxy S8 hits store shelves, but that’s not the only big Samsung news that’s coming out today.
Samsung and Google are teaming up to make Google Play Music the default music player and music service on all new Samsung phones and tablets around the world. That means that instead of a coming with a music player from Samsung or someone else, the Galaxy S8 and future devices will come with Google Play Music preloaded.
Google Play Music is also getting some special features for owners of new Samsung phones and tablets. That includes the ability to upload and stream up to 100,000 of your own songs, which is double the limit of regular users. New Samsung phones and tablets will also come with a free three-month trial of the Google Play Music streaming service, which includes YouTube Red.
Finally, Google Play Music will work with Samsung’s Bixby assistant when it launches later this spring.
This partnership with Samsung is a big deal for Google Play Music. Samsung is the biggest Android manufacturer around and the Galaxy S8 is one of the most hotly-anticipated smartphones of 2017. Now folks that buy Samsung devices will be exposed to Google Play Music, and they’ll all get a few months to try out the streaming service for free. Meanwhile, Samsung gets a solid music player from Google and an offer of three months of free music streaming to help its devices stand out to consumers.
