Google posts Android 7.1.2 factory images and OTA files

Android Nougat Easter egg Google Pixel

iOS users aren’t the only ones getting a new update today.

Google has posted the Android 7.1.2 factory images and OTA files for Pixel and Nexus devices. These images include the April 2017 security patches, too.

As a reminder, the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 aren’t getting Android 7.1.2. That means that their April 2017 security patches are bundled with Android 7.1.1.

To install a factory image or OTA file, you’re going to need to sideload the update. If that’s not something that you’re familiar with, you can just wait for the OTA update to be pushed to your device by Google. Now that the factory images and OTA files are online, the update should be rolling out over the air to devices over the coming days.

Google hasn’t officially announced what’s included with the Android 7.1.2 update, but we’ve seen that the it gives the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P a “Swipe for notifications” feature that lets you access your notification shade by swiping on the phones’ fingerprint readers. Meanwhile, the Pixel C is getting the Pixel Launcher. The Android 7.1.2 update likely includes some under-the-hood bug fixes and improvements, too.
