With the launch of the iPhone 6s, Apple introduced Live Photos, a feature that captures a second or so before and after you take a photo to give you a short GIF-style file. Since then, we’ve seen companies like Google and Facebook work to make sharing Live Photos easier, and now Apple is doing the same.
Apple has released a new LivePhotoKit JS API that aims to make it easier for iOS users to embed Live Photos on the web. This means that web developers will have to add the LivePhotoKit JS API to their site, and then Live Photos embeds will be supported.
Previously, you could only shared Live Photos on iOS and macOS, so this new API can expose your Live Photos to many more people. Of course, it’s up to the web developers to add this API to their sites, so you’ll have to wait for your favorite sites to enable support before you can start sharing your Live Photos with everyone on the web. Still, it’s good to see Apple making Live Photos easier to share and giving iOS users more of a reason to use them.
Do you use Live Photos?
