Google names Huawei and ZTE phones that are gaining Daydream VR support

When Google’s Daydream VR platform launched last year, the Pixel and Pixel XL were the only phones to support it out of the gate. The list of phones that support Daydream is growing, though, and this week a few more models have been added.

Google has confirmed that Huawei’s Mate 9 Pro and Porsche Design Mate 9 both support Daydream. Huawei is taking things a step further by crafting its own Daydream headset (shown below), too, which will offer an adjustable focus so that you can use it without glasses. Huawei’s VR headset will launch at a later date.

Another phone that’ll soon join the Daydream family is the ZTE Axon 7. When the Axon 7 receives its Android Nougat update, it’ll gain support for Daydream VR.

With these additions, the list of phones that support Daydream looks like this:

  • Google Pixel
  • Google Pixel XL
  • Moto Z
  • Moto Z Force
  • ASUS ZenFone AR
  • Huawei Mate 9 Pro
  • Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9
  • ZTE Axon 7

It’s great to see several more phones gaining support for Google’s Daydream VR in the months following the platform’s launch. Daydream offers an affordable way to experience VR, with Google’s headset priced at $79.99, but that wouldn’t mean much if only a couple of phones supported Daydream. We’re starting to see a variety of devices gain Daydream support, though, and hopefully that’s a trend that’ll continue through 2017.
