The saga of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 continues as we enter 2017.
The Federal Aviation Administration has said that US airlines are no longer required to make pre-boarding announcements that the Note 7 is banned from aircraft.
To be clear, the Note 7 is still banned from airplanes. However, the requirement to make an announcement about the ban has been lifted “due to the high degree of public awareness of the band since issuance of the emergency restriction/prohibition order, as well as extensive efforts by Samsung and US wireless providers to make all Note 7 users aware the phone is recalled and banned from transport on US aircraft.”
Meanwhile, Samsung today announced that 96 percent of Galaxy Note 7 phones in the US have been returned. The Note 7 was officially recalled for a second time and discontinued in October 2017.
This is all good news for Samsung to start the year. Not only are more and more Note 7 phones being returned, but now it’s no longer required that airlines make an announcement about the Note 7 ban before flights, which means that passengers won’t necessarily be reminded of the whole debacle before every flight.
