Google confirmed last year that it was delaying the launch of Android Wear 2.0 into early 2017, but the company never said exactly when in early 2017 the update would roll out. Now we may have a more precise timeframe.

In an email being sent out to developers, Google says that “Android Wear 2.0 is launching in early February 2017.” The email is going out to devs with Android Wear apps that use the old APK installation method, rather than the new Android Wear 2.0 method that’ll include a Play Store on the watch.

Android Wear 2.0 early February 2017

While “early February 2017” isn’t an exact date, it is more precise that the “early 2017” timeframe that Google previously announced. So if you’ve got an Android Wear smartwatch that’ll be updated to 2.0, you could be about a month away from getting some new software to play with.

The update to Android Wear 2.0 will bring with it a few new features and improvements. There’s the aforementioned on-watch Play Store as well as handwriting support, Android Pay on NFC-equipped watches, and more.
