Following the release of watchOS 5.1, some Apple Watch Series 4 owners complained that the update bricked their device. Apple paused the update to prevent more devices from being affected. Now the company has a revised update available.
watchOS 5.1.1 is now being released for the Apple Watch. This update no longer has the bug that caused some devices to get stuck showing an Apple logo on their screen, meaning Apple Watch Series 4 owners can now update without worrying about their device turning into a paperweight.
It's worth noting that this update does not fix Apple Watch Series 4 devices that've already been bricked by the watchOS 5.1 update. If you've got a device that was affected, you'll need to contact Apple, who has been sending replacement units to customers.
The watchOS 5.1.1 update includes features that were included in watchOS 5.1, like more than 70 new emoji. Also included is improved fall detection, fixes for two bugs that could prevent Walkie-Talkie from working, and a fix for an issue that could cause some Activity awards to not show up. Apple has included two new full-screen "Color" watch faces as well.
To update to watchOS 5.1.1, grab your iPhone and launch the Watch app. From there, go into General > Software Update.
