The start of a new month means new Android security updates for Google's Pixel and Nexus devices.
Google today released its November 2018 security updates for Pixel and Nexus devices. The updates are now rolling out over the air, and you should see your phone's update in the coming days. Google is also offering factory images and OTA images if you prefer to sideload your update right now.
Along with these updates, Google has posted a security bulletin that details what vulnerabilities have been patched in November's update. Vulnerabilities related to the framework, media framework, and system have been patched in the 2018-11-01 update, while the 2018-11-05 update adds fixes related to the framework and Qualcomm components.
Google has offered up information on the updates specific to the Pixel and Nexus devices as well. The November updates patch vulnerabilities related to HTC and Qualcomm components. There are some functional patches included, too, and they are:
- Improved performance for devices using picture-in-picture, affecting the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, and Pixel 3 XL
- Improved Strongbox symmetric key generation requests, affecting Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL
- Improved performance for apps using picture-in-picture, affecting Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, and Pixel 3 XL
- Improved stability for notifications, affecting Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, and Pixel 3 XL
Finally, Essential has announced that it's now sending out the November security update for the Essential Phone. This update includes Google's November 2018 security patches as well as support for the Essential Audio Adapter HD, which is expected to be released soon.
