Unlocked Moto Z and Verizon LG G6 receiving Android Oreo updates

Motorola Moto Z hands-on

Android Oreo usage continues to climb each month, and this week two more devices are being updated to Oreo.

The unlocked Moto Z and Verizon LG G6 are both being updated to Android 8.0 Oreo in the U.S. The unlocked version of the Moto Z (model number XT1650-03) actually began getting Oreo earlier this month, but only a small number of users got it at that time. The update appears to begin rolling out more widely now.

As for what's included in this 1.4GB update, it brings the March 1, 2018 Android security patches, stability improvements, and Oreo features like picture-in-picture.

Meanwhile, Verizon is updating its LG G6 to Oreo, too. This is a hefty 1.89GB update that includes the April 1, 2018 Android security patches, Oreo features like picture-in-picture and notification badges, a pop-up notification for when the phone detects moisture in its USB port, a redesigned Settings menu that's easier to use, and more.

While Android P is currently in beta, it won't be released to the public until later this year, so Oreo is still the latest publicly available version of Android. It's good to see more devices receive their Oreo updates because it means that more people are getting onto the newest flavor of Android and gaining all of the new features that come with it.
