Hot on the heels of news that the Sony Xperia XZ2 is coming to the U.S., Sony has announced an even more premium flagship device.
The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium is now official. It's got a design similar to the standard Xperia XZ2, but there are a handful of upgrades to be aware of. For example, the Xperia XZ2 Premium has a 5.8-inch 4K (3840x2160) display while the Xperia XZ2 has a 5.7-inch 2160x1080 screen.
Also of note is that the Xperia XZ2 Premium has a dual rear camera setup, making it the first Sony Xperia phone to have this feature. There are 19MP color and 12MP monochrome cameras on the back of the XZ2 Premium, and Sony touts that they combine with the phone's AUBE fusion image signal processor to offer an ISO of 51,200 for super low light photos. They can also capture an ISO of 12,800 for videos.
Sony touts that the XZ2 Premium's dual rear camera setup offers super low motion 960fps video capture and Bokeh portrait mode photos. However, the Bokeh and monochrome features won't be available until Q3 2018.
Other upgraded features of the Xperia XZ2 Premium include a bump up to 6GB of RAM, a 13MP front camera with wide angle lens, and a larger 3,540mAh battery.
Rounding out the Xperia XZ2 Premium's spec list is a Snapdragon 845 processor, 64GB of built-in storage, a microSD card slot, a fingerprint reader, wireless charging, and USB-C for charging and listening to audio. The XZ2 Premium will come preloaded with Andriod 8.0 Oreo.
Sony will launch the Xperia XZ2 Premium globally this summer. There's no word on price just yet, but considering that the standard Xperia XZ2 sells for $800, the Xperia XZ2 Premium could come in at $900 or $1,000.
The Xperia XZ2 Premium looks like a nice phone, and that large 4K display is sure to get some folks to open up their wallet for it. What's even more notable about the phone is that it shows Sony finally getting in on the dual rear camera trend, which gives users even more capabilities when it comes to capturing photos. We're looking forward to giving the XZ2 Premium's super low light capabilities a try.
