Just as expected, Apple today introduced red versions of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. These models are a bit different than last year's red iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, though.
The special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will be available online starting tomorrow, April 10, in select countries including the U.S., U.K., Japan, China, Canada, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Mexico, and Brazil. Both devices will be available in stores on April 13. Launches in countries like India, Israel, and Turkey will follow in May.
The red versions of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus offer bright red glass backs and red aluminum bands on the outer edges of the devices. Unlike the red iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus which had white fronts, though, the red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have black fronts.
As with all (PRODUCT)RED products, a portion of the proceeds of purchases of these red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will go to the Global Fund HIV/AIDS grants. These will help provide testing, counseling, treatment, and prevention programs, with a focus on eliminating the transmission of HIV/AIDS from mothers to their babies.
Apple today also announced a (PRODUCT)RED iPhone X Leather Folio, which will also be available beginning tomorrow, April 10. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there's a red iPhone X coming, at least not right now.
The red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will be available in 64GB and 256GB capacities, with pricing starting at $699. The red iPhone X Leather Folio will cost $99.
