Apple releases iOS 11.4 beta 2 and watch OS 4.3.1 beta 2 updates

iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus hands-on review

Two weeks after Apple pushed the first iOS 11.4 beta, testing of the impending update continues.

Apple today unleashed iOS 11.4 beta 2 to registered developers. If that's you, then you can get this update over the air by going to Settings > General > Software Update on your iOS device, or by visiting Apple's Developer Center on the web.

Included with iOS 11.4 is a new ClassKit framework for education and support for Messages on iCloud, which can store your iMessages in the cloud and syncing them across devices. Also included is AirPlay 2, which offers features like playing the same audio across multiple rooms.

Apple hasn't said when iOS 11.4 will be released to the public. We typically see at least four or five beta releases of an update before the public release, though, so we're probably at least another month or so from seeing iOS 11.4's public launch.

Also released to developers today is watchOS 4.3.1 beta 2. Code inside the update suggests that Apple may be planning to add support for third-party watch faces, but that kind of major addition seems more like a watchOS 5 feature than a watchOS 4.3.1 feature.
