Is wireless charging a must-have feature for you?

Apple iPhone X wireless charging

Before OnePlus got around to officially announcing its newest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 6T, the company's CEO went out into the world and set some expectations for what was, at the time, an unofficial handset. In an interview, Pete Lau confirmed the handset would not have wireless charging on board. That obviously raised plenty of eyebrows, but I can say that it feels like it was a pretty uneventful announcement.

And that's a good thing.

The OnePlus 6T appears to be another solid handset from the OnePlus crew, albeit with a few missing elements from the mix. But whether or not the device is missing wireless charging is a make it or break it deal is wholly based on the individual. I don't imagine that OnePlus will take a major beating across the board, because the OnePlus 6T has plenty of other positives in the package.

Right now, wireless charging is just about everywhere. Apple managed to excite a whole bunch of people when the company finally added the feature last year with the iPhone 8. And Samsung has obviously been boasting wireless charging in its smartphone lineup for quite some time now. For me, personally, it's a feature that I don't really care about one way or another.

I have a pretty set schedule when it comes to charging my phone. I used to charge it overnight, but that's not the case anymore. Now I charge it later in the night, but just before I go to bed. I top it up, or get pretty close, and then take it off the charger and let it rest all night. When I wake up in the morning I make sure to get it to 100% and then I go about my day. This means that I usually always have enough charge to get through the day -- especially now using Apple's new iPhone.

Would just setting my phone down on the wireless charging mat, or stand, be pretty cool? Sure. But it's not a feature that I feel like I absolutely need. And since I'm using macOS I never really have to look at my phone while I'm on my computer, as I have messaging apps like Telegram and Slack on my computer, and I get iMessages and standard texts on the MacBook, too. A wireless charging stand just doesn't feel like a purchase I need.

I thought I was going to be excited for wireless charging when it finally arrived on the iPhone, but I had already been using it off-and-on up until then so it didn't really chime any bells. And now that Apple has gone quiet in regards to its own AirPower wireless charging mat, well, the feature has essentially dropped off the radar for me pretty much completely.

But I know that it's one of those bullet points on features lists that a lot of people look for, so I wanted to reach out to all of you and find out how you feel about wireless charging these days. Is it still a requirement for you? Or is it something you don't really think about? Let me know!
