Ever since Google launched its Digital Wellbeing feature alongside Android Pie, the feature has been in beta and only available to Pixel phones. Today Digital Wellbeing is finally exiting beta, though, and is expanding to more devices.
Google today issued an update to its Digital Wellbeing app, saying that it's now out of beta. Now that it's graduated to a fully-fledged application, Digital Wellbeing is available to all Google Pixel and Android One devices running Android 9 Pie.
In addition to exiting beta, the Digital Wellness app now has Wind Down turn off at your set time or next alarm, whichever comes first. Google has also made improvements to Digital Wellbeing's Back button behavior.
There's been a major focus on digital health in mobile lately, and Digital Wellbeing is Google's answer to it. The app can show you how much you use your phone in a particular day, including how frequently you use different apps and how many notifications you receive. It'll also let you set daily app timers to limit how much you use apps, and Wind Down will help you get ready for bed by fading your screen to grayscale and enabling Do Not Disturb.
The Digital Wellbeing app looks like a nice way to help you track your smartphone usage, and if you want it, get help to control that usage. It's kind of disappointing that it's not available to every single Android device, but for now it looks like Google wants to keep it as a feature to entice users to buy a Pixel or Android One phone.
