Days after Fortnite Battle Royale began testing on iOS devices, another popular PC game has made its way to mobile in the US.
PUBG Mobile is now available in the US and many other countries on both Android and iOS. The app was offered as a beta in Canada last week, but now it looks to be rolling out more widely, including on iOS devices.
This officially licensed mobile version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is described as "an authentic port of the PC version". The game tasks you with dropping onto an 8km x 8km island with 99 other players and being the last one alive. You can pick up weapons and clothes and drive vehicles while eliminating other players and ensuring that you stay inside an ever-shrinking circle that'll hurt you if you're outside of it.
The mobile version of PUBG is being developed by Chinese company Tencent, who touts that the came offers "high-quality audio, immersive 3D sound effects, and 7.1 channel surround sound."
The Android version of PUBG Mobile requires Android 4.3 or higher, but the developer recommends Android 5.1.1 or higher and at least 2GB of RAM. On the iOS side, you'll need iOS 9.0 or later to run PUBG Mobile. The game supports the iPhone 5s and up, the iPad Air and iPad Air 2, the iPad mini 2 and up, the iPad Pro, and the iPod touch (6th generation).
While Fortnite Battle Royale has enjoyed a huge surge in popularity recently, PUBG is still one of the most popular video games out there and so it's a big deal for the game to appear on mobile devices. It'll be interesting to try the game out and see how it runs on mobile devices and how Tencent has adapted the PC game for touchscreen devices.
Also of note is that Tencent says that this version "does not represent the final quality of the game" and that the company plans to continue to optimize PUBG Mobile and add new features. So keep that in mind as you boot the game up on your Android or iOS device.
