In recent weeks, we've seen the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ receive Android 8.0 updates on several carriers. Owners of the unlocked models are probably wondering where their updates are, though, and now Samsung has come forward with an answer.
Samsung has said that all Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy Note 8 models in the next 2-3 weeks. No exact date was given because the updates are still undergoing final testing, but this is more info on the rollout than we had before.
Samsung also explained why it's taking longer for the unlocked S8 and S8+ to get Oreo than it did for the carrier-specific models. "The reason for this is that unlocked devices must go through more rigorous testing than carrier-specific devices because we need to make sure there is proper network functionality across ALL supported networks," the company said.
The Galaxy S8, S8+, and Note 8 were some of the biggest smartphones of 2018, so it's no wonder that owners are getting anxious waiting for their Oreo update. That's especially true of the unlocked models, which many owners probably expected would get Oreo first since they're not tied to a specific carrier and its testing process. The good news is that Oreo is close, so you unlocked S8, S8+, and Note 8 owners don't have to wait much longer for your update.
