Remember when Microsoft sold a "Microsoft Edition" of the Samsung Galaxy S8 last year? It looks like the company will be doing the same with the Galaxy S9 this year.
Microsoft is now taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. The phones are being sold unlocked, with the former being priced at $719.99 and the latter at $839.99.
These Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ units are the same as the ones you'd get if you buy from Samsung, at least when it comes to hardware. What's different is that when a Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+ from Microsoft is connected to Wi-Fi, it'll download a suite of Microsoft-made Android apps.
Specifically, Trusted Reviews says that these phones will download Cortana, Excel, Skype, OneNote, PowerPoint, Word, and Microsoft Launcher.
Both the S9 and S9+ from Microsoft are slated to launch on March 16, alongside the other variants of the devices. If you're interested in them, you can get up to $350 in credit when you trade in an eligible smartphone in a Microsoft store and buy a Galaxy S9 or S9+.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are sure to be two of the biggest smartphones of 2018, and Microsoft knows this. It's using them as a way to get more people to try its various services. The good news is that these models are mostly identical to the ones that you'd get from Samsung, including their prices, so this is another way for consumers interested in an unlocked S9 or S9+ to buy one, which probably makes Samsung happy.
