Android Wear is undergoing a branding change.
Google announced today that Android Wear is now Wear OS. The smartwatch platform has a new logo, too, which you can see at the top of this post.
In a blog post announcing the change, Google says that this new name "better reflects our technology, vision, and most important of all — the people who wear our watches." Google adds that Wear OS is "a wearables operating system for everyone."
The new Wear OS website is now live, and the new name will begin appearing on smartwatches and the app in the coming weeks.
There don't appear to be any other changes or new features coming with this new branding. Interestingly, Google says that in 2017, one of every three new Android Wear watch owners were using an iPhone. That could have something to do with the name change.
Also of note is that watch trade show Baselworld is happening next week, so we may see some new Android Wear Wear OS announcements there.
