Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus both feature secondary rear display

Meizu Pro 7 official secondary rear display

We’ve seen a few Android phones with secondary displays launch recently, and today another such device has debuted. The difference between those other phones and this new one, though, is that the new handset has its secondary display on its back.

Meizu today revealed the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus. One of the highlight features of these new phones is that they have a secondary Super AMOLED display on their backsides, below their dual rear camera setups. The secondary screen can display alerts, time, and music, and you can use it as a viewfinder when you’re taking selfies with the rear cameras.

Speaking of cameras, both the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus offer dual 12-megapixel Sony IMX386 sensors on their backsides. One of those lenses is color and one is black and white, which Meizu says will help you take better night photos. Around on the front of the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus is a 16-megapixel camera.

The Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus also differ in some areas. The Pro 7 is packing a smaller 5.2-inch 1920x1080 display and MediaTek Helio P25 processor, while the Pro 7 Plus has a 5.7-inch 2560x1440 screen and a Helio P30 processor. Additionally, the Pro 7 includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, whereas the Pro 7 Plus offers 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. Rounding out the specs of these phones is the Pro 7’s 3000mAh battery and the Pro 7 Plus’s 3500mAh battery.

Meizu Pro 7 Plus

Meizu will begin selling the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus in China on August 5th. Pricing for the smaller Pro 7 will be set at $430, while the larger Pro 7 Plus will carry a larger $530 price tag.

Placing the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus’s secondary display on the back is an interesting move from Meizu. It serves the same purpose as secondary displays from manufacturers like LG and HTC, but it also lets you use it as a viewfinder and offers more room for a larger rear display from Meizu. Some folks may not like putting their phone face down on the table to use the secondary screen, but for those that don’t mind, the secondary rear display is a pretty interesting addition.

What do you think of the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus and their rear display?
