Essential Phone will launch 'in a few weeks', says Andy Rubin

Essential Phone official

When Andy Rubin unveiled the Essential Phone, he said that it’d ship within 30 days, which would’ve been the end of June. That time came and went without any Essential Phone launch, and so now Rubin has shared a new release timeframe for his device.

In a statement shared on the official Essential page on Twitter, Andy Rubin says that the Essential Phone will be in users’ hands “in a few weeks.” Rubin explains that the phone is now going through certification and testing with U.S. and international carriers.

The Essential Phone is the first device from Essential, a new company created by Android co-founder Andy Rubin. It features a 5.7-inch 2560x1312 display with a 19:10 aspect ratio and super-slim bezels. Also included are dual 13-megapixel cameras, a Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 3040mAh battery, and Android 7.1.1.

One other highlight feature of the Essential Phone are the connector pins on its backside. These allow you to connect accessories, like the 360-degree camera that Essential has shown.

The Essential Phone can be reserved right now for $699. The 360 Camera add-on is normally priced at $199, but is now being offered for a special price of $50 when you reserve and Essential Phone.
