Google launches Trusted Contacts for iOS, updates Android app with new features

Google Trusted Contacts app iPhone

After launching last year on Android, Google’s Trusted Contacts app today arrived on iOS.

Trusted Contacts for iPhone is similar to the Android model. You can add family and friends as trusted contacts and then they can request your location. If you’re ok, you can deny the request. If you’re unsafe you can share your location, or the app will automatically share your location if you don’t respond within a certain period of time.

Google has also updated Trusted Contacts for Android to include new features. You can now decide how quickly the app will automatically share your location when you don’t respond to location requests. Previously the app would wait five minutes, but now you can change that setting from immediately to one hour.

Also rolling out today is the ability to add trusted contacts by phone number. When you do, the other person will get an SMS with your request.

Google has also added support for nine new languages to Trusted Contacts. They include Amharic (Ethiopia), Greek (Greece), Persian (Iran), Bahasa (Indonesia), Macedonian (Macedonia), Burmese (Myanmar), Nepali (Nepal), Serbian (Serbia) and Urdu (Pakistan).
