OnePlus 6 official with 6.28-inch display, Snapdragon 845, and up to 8GB of RAM

OnePlus 6 Mirror Black official

OnePlus has become a popular Android OEM in the four years since the OnePlus One made its official debut, and today the newest OnePlus flagship has been made official.

Meet the OnePlus 6. It's got a 6.28-inch 2280x1080 screen with 19:9 aspect ratio, and yes, it's got a notch. OnePlus says that it wanted to offer as much screen real estate as possible without increasing the size of the device, so it's crammed the sensors, speaker, and front camera into a notch at the top of the display.

Around on the back of the OnePlus 6 is a vertically stacked dual rear camera setup that's now in the center of the phone for symmetry. There's a 16MP camera with Sony IMX 519 sensor, f/1.7 aperture, and support for optical image stabilization and electronic image stabilization, as well as a 20MP camera with Sony IMD 376K sensor and f/1.7 aperture. Also included are portrait mode and slow-motion 480fps video capture features.

The body of the OnePlus 6 is made of Gorilla Glass 5, which OnePlus says will be better for transmitting radio waves. Inside that glass body is an octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, 64/128/256GB of storage, and a 3300mAh battery.

Rounding out the OP6's spec list is a 16MP front-facing camera, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, an alert slider, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the security side of things, there's a rear fingerprint reader and face unlock, and when it comes to wireless capabilities, the OnePlus 6 supports 40 global LTE bands as well as 4x4 MIMO for speeds up to 1Gbps.

On the software side of things, the OnePlus 6 runs Android 8.1 Oreo below a custom OxygenOS 5.1 user interface that adds things like gesture navigation and Gaming Mode, which will block notifications and limit background processes to help you focus on your game.

OnePlus 6 Silk White official

Also of note is that OnePlus 6 owners will be able to try the Android P beta release in the near future.

The OnePlus 6 will be available in Mirror Black and matte Midnight Black color options beginning on May 22, with a limited edition Silk White version launching June 5. Here's how pricing will break down:

  • 6GB/64GB: £469/€519/$529
  • 8GB/128GB: £519/€569/$579
  • 8GB/256GB: £569/€619/$629

OnePlus's newest flagship looks like a solid upgrade over its predecessors. It's gotten a bigger display while retaining a size similar to the OnePlus 5T, and while some folks may not care for the notch, OnePlus has said that it'll let you hide it with software. The internal spec upgrades are nice, too, and while the OnePlus 6 is pricier than the OnePlus One was way back in 2014, it's still a bit cheaper than most other flagship phones on the market right now.
