The calendar has flipped over to July 11th at LG’s headquarters in South Korea, and right on schedule, the company has announced a brand new smartphone.
The LG Q6 is the first in LG’s new Q series of devices. LG says that the Q series “offers many of LG’s most sought-out premium features at a competitive price.”
LG’s Q6 borrows the FullVision display from the LG G6, meaning that it’s got a display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and minimal bezels. The Q6 screen has a slightly lower resolution than the 2880x1440 panel found on the G6, though, coming in at a resolution of 2160x1080.
Other features of the Q6 being highlighted by LG include the metal frame, which is a 7000 series aluminum that LG touts as being “ultra-strong”, and a 3,000mAh battery that LG subjected to more than 20 tests.
The LG Q6 is powered by a Snapdragon 435 processor and features a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera with wide angle lens, FM radio, face recognition, and Android 7.1.1 Nougat running below a custom LG UX 6.0 user interface. When it comes to RAM and storage, LG will offer three versions of the Q6:
- LG Q6+: 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage
- LG Q6: 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage
- LG Q6α: 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage
With the LG Q6, it looks like LG is working to bring an LG G6-like experience to a more price-conscious audience. While the Q6 doesn’t have the dual rear camera setup of its G6 sibling, it does have the tall display with slim bezels that helps it to stand out.
LG plans to launch the Q6 in key markets in Asia starting in August, followed by launches in Europe, Latin America, and North America. No pricing details have been given.
