KFC teams up with Huawei to release limited edition smartphone

Huawei is no stranger to launching unique special editions of its phones, like it did with the Arsenal edition of its Ascend P7 a few years ago. The company’s newest special edition phone might be one of the strangest we’ve ever seen, though.

KFC and Huawei have teamed up to announce a special device to commemorate the 30th anniversary of KFC’s launch in China. The phone is decked out with a bright red back, similar to the red in KFC’s logo, and below the rear fingerprint reader is an image of KFC founder Colonel Sanders and “1987”, the year that KFC made its way to China.

When it comes to specs, KFC and Huawei’s device is a fairly mid-range offering. It’s got a 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 425 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a microSD slot. It’s powered by a 3,020mAh battery.

One other notable feature of the KFC smartphone is its KFC-branded music app. With it, you can create and share playlists at KFC restaurants.

Only 5,000 units of this special KFC phone will be made, and they’ll only be available in China. Pricing will be set at 1,099 yuan ($162 USD).

This KFC smartphone doesn’t look too bad and should stand out pretty well, not only because of its bright red backside but also because, you know, the Colonel Sanders that’s printed on its rear. Most of us will just have to ogle this device from afar, but if you live in China or know someone who does, you can try to get one of these unique devices to call your own.
