T-Mobile spent nearly $8 billion on 600MHz spectrum in all 50 states, and the magenta carrier has said that it plans to begin deploying those airwaves this year. While we wait for that to happen, T-Mo has shed a bit more light on the 600MHz spectrum transition process.
A new animation shared by T-Mobile details the different phases in which the 600MHz spectrum sold by the TV broadcasters will be transitioned to T-Mobile use. There are 10 phases in total, each with its own deadline date on which the broadcasters must transition their spectrum. You can check out the full animation, complete with all 10 phases, right here.
T-Mobile expects all 600MHz spectrum to be transitioned for its use by July 2020. As you can see in the image above, though, there are some parts of the US in which there are no broadcasters in the 600MHz band. T-Mo can begin deploying its network in these areas this year.
We’ll have to wait and see exactly where and when T-Mobile begins deploying 600MHz coverage, but this animation can give T-Mo customers that love to dig deep into their network something to chew on for now. Stay tuned as we wait for T-Mobile’s first 600MHz coverage to be deployed later this year.
Also, it’s worth reiterating that T-Mobile plans to offer a Samsung device that supports 600MHz spectrum by the holidays of this year. So that’s something else to look forward to.
