Nearly one year after Pokémon Go burst onto the scene, another Pokémon game has launched on mobile devices.
Magikarp Jump is now available on Android and iOS. Rather than tasking you with roaming around and catching wild Pokémon to do battle with other monsters, Magikarp Jump has you training the weakest Pokémon around and entering it into jumping battles with other Magikarp.
The game is free to play, and so it should come as no surprise that there are in-app purchases available. You can purchase Diamonds and Exchange Tickets that can then be redeemed for in-game items, including items that’ll help you train your Magikarp to jump higher, help you get more Diamonds or Coins (which can be spent on food items to improve your Magikarp’s jumping ability), and items that you can use to decorate your Magikarp’s underwater home. You can also regain training points over time and by winning jumping battles.
Magikarp Jump is a simple game, and you’ll spend most of it just tapping and swiping the screen. Still, it seems really well made and should be pretty easy to grasp for most folks. It’s also nice because it’s a game that you can jump into and just spend a minute or two feeding your Magikarp and training it or entering it into a battle, then jumping back out again and going about your day.
