T-Mobile launching #GetOutoftheRed promo to tempt Verizon customers to switch

T-Mobile today announced a couple of new promotions, one targeted at Verizon customers and one that existing T-Mo subscribers can take advantage of.

First up, T-Mobile is launching its #GetOutoftheRed promo on May 31st. With this offer, T-Mobile will pay off Verizon customers’ iPhones or Pixels when they switch to T-Mo, and those folks will get to keep their device to help make switching easier.

As with most wireless deals, there’s some fine print to be aware of here. T-Mobile says that the phones that are eligible for this deal include the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, Google Pixel, and Google Pixel XL. This is because “phones need certain software to be globally compatible, and some phones don’t yet have that software,” says T-Mobile. The carrier adds that it’s working to make more phones compatible with this deal.

Verizon customers looking to take advantage of T-Mobile’s offer must also sign up for a T-Mobile One plan as well as T-Mo’s Premium Device Protection Plus. This $15 per month insurance plan includes protection against loss, theft, and accidental damage, AppleCare, McAfee ID Protection, and more.

Once you meet all of this criteria, T-Mobile will send you a digital prepaid MasterCard card to cover the cost of your devices. T-Mo says that this digital card “typically” arrives within 15 days.

T-Mobile Un-carrier 3 event

Despite this promotion being targeted at Verizon customers, T-Mobile isn’t leaving AT&T and Sprint customers in the dark. Starting May 31st, AT&T and Sprint subscribers can switch to T-Mobile and get their existing device paid off when they buy a new phone on an Equipment Installment Plan. What’s different here is that these customers are normally required to trade in their phone to get this deal, but for a limited time, that won’t be necessary.

Finally, T-Mobile One subscribers are getting a deal of their own on May 25th. T-Mobile One customers with at least two voice lines can get two additional lines for the price of one, with the second line’s price being offset by a monthly bill credit.

T-Mobile today also revealed that it’s increasing its deprioritization threshold to 32GB. This means that customers using more than 32GB of data in a single month will have their data usage prioritized below other customers. These subscribers may see slower data speeds when at a location where the network is congested. A customer’s threshold will be reset at the start of a new billing cycle.
