Two new chipsets are joining the Snapdragon family today.
Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630, which aim to bring flagship-tier features to more affordable devices.
First up is the Snapdragon 660, the follow-up to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 653. It uses a 14nm FinFET process and has an X12 LTE modem that can support download speeds up to 600Mbps, making it the first 600-series processor to include the X12 modem.
Also included with the Snapdragon 660 is a 14-bit Spectra 160 ISP that supports cameras that take up to 24-megapixel photos, 4K video capture at 30fps, and support for up to 16MP+16MP dual camera setups. There’s Bluetooth 5 support in there as well, which offers faster transfer speeds and quadruple the range, and Quick Charge 4 that can get you up to 50 percent battery capacity in just 15 minutes of charging.
The Snapdragon 660 includes an octa-core Kryo 260 CPU that offers a 20 percent performance improvement over the Snapdragon 653. Also included is an Adreno 512 GPU that’ll get you up to a 30 percent performance increase over the Adreno 510 GPU. The SD660 supports up to 8GB of RAM.
Meanwhile, Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 630 is the follow-up to the Snapdragon 625, and it includes many of the same features as the Snapdragon 660. That includes the X12 LTE modem, 14nm FinFET process, Bluetooth 5, Quick Charge 4, and Spectra 160 ISP. The SD630 supports dual camera setups up to 13MP+13MP and is sporting an octa-core processor and Adreno 508 GPU, both of which offer improved performance over their predecessors.
Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 660 is now available for manufacturers, while the Snapdragon 630 will begin shipping near the end of May.
