Gmail for Android gaining anti-phishing security checks

Gmail for Android app Play Store

Earlier this week, there was a big Google Docs phishing scam that made the rounds and looked pretty convincing. Not long after, Google announced an Gmail for Android feature to fight phishing scams.

Google is adding anti-phishing security checks to Gmail for Android. With it, you’ll get a “phishing suspected” warning when you click a suspicious link in your email. The warning explains that the site you’re trying to visit has been identified as a forgery, but it will let you continue if you believe it to be a false warning.

This new feature is now rolling out, though it could take a few days to hit all users.

Google’s anti-phishing security check is a nice addition to Gmail for Android. Not everyone is technically savvy enough to identify phishing scams on their own, and so this new warning can help protect folks that might fall victim to a scam without them.
