Xiaomi today introduced two new members of its Redmi smartphone family.
The Redmi Note 5 features a 5.99-inch 2160x1080 display with 18:9 aspect ratio and on-screen navigation buttons. There's a 5MP camera above that screen for all your selfie needs, and around back there's a 12MP camera with f/2.2 aperture, 1.25 micron pixels, dual LED flash, and phase detection autofocus. There's also a fingerprint reader below the rear camera.
Inside the Redmi Note 5's metal body is a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, and 32GB or 64GB of built-in storage. Xiaomi has included a microSD slot if you need additional storage. Meanwhile, a 4,000mAh battery powers the entire package.
Xiaomi will begin selling the Redmi Note 5 in India on February 22. Pricing will start at ₹9,999 ($156 USD) for the 3GB/32GB model and go up to ₹11,999 ($187 USD) for the 4GB/64GB model. Color options include Black, Gold, Lake Blue, and Rose Gold.
And then there's the Redmi Note 5 Pro. This step-up model has the same 5.99-inch 2160x1080 display as the Redmi Note 5, but many of its other features have been upgraded.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro is packing a dual rear camera setup with one 12MP sensor that includes 1.25 micron pixels and an f/2.2 aperture as well as a 5MP sensor that captures depth information. Around front there's a 20MP camera that'll let you take portrait selfies with blurry backgrounds.
Xiaomi is getting in on the face unlock trend with the Redmi Note 5 Pro, and there's a fingerprint reader on the back of the device if you prefer to unlock your phone that way.
Packed into the Redmi Note 5 Pro's metal shell is an octa-core Snapdragon 636 processor, 4GB or 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a microSD card slot. Like the standard Redmi Note 5, the Redmi Note 5 Pro offers a 4,000mAh battery.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro will launch in India on February 22 at a starting price of ₹13,999 ($219 USD) for the 4GB/64GB model. The price will go up to ₹16,999 ($265 USD) for the 6GB/64GB model. Color options for the Redmi Note 5 Pro will include Black, Gold, Rose Gold, and Lake Blue.
