Pokémon Go ending support for older iPhone and iPad models

If you play Pokémon Go, you should be aware of the news about the game that came out today.

Pokémon Go developer Niantic has announced that in an upcoming update, the game will end support for Apple devices that don't run iOS 11. The change is expected to take effect on February 28th, 2018.

Once the update rolls out, players on the affected devices will no longer be able to sign in.

The devices affected by this change include the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPad 2, iPad mini (1st Gen.), iPad (3rd Gen.), and iPad (4th Gen.).

As for why this change is happening, Niantic explains that it's making improvements to Pokémon Go "that push the application beyond the capabilities of the operating systems on such devices."

This news is disappointing, but sometimes developers must cut off support for older phones in order to continue improving their applications. At least Niantic has given Pokémon Go players more than one month's warning so that anyone affected has some time to move to another device.
