Apple said to be delaying new iOS features to 2019 to focus on improving performance

Following Apple's preview of the upcoming iOS 11.3 update, a new report may have spilled details on Apple's update plans post-iOS 11.3.

Apple had planned to roll out new features to iOS in 2018, according to Axios, but it has decided to push them to 2019 in order to focus more on improving performance and quality. Some of the features that've been delayed include refreshes to the iOS home screen and in-car UI, improvements to core apps like Mail, and better photo capturing, photo editing, and sharing.

This doesn't mean that 2018 will have zero new iOS features. Apple is said to be working to improve the augmented reality, digital health, and parental controls in iOS.

Apple will reportedly also work to make iPhones more responsive and less prone to needed customer support.

Each fall, Apple typically releases a major new software update with many new features. iOS 11 has been criticized for being buggier than other recent iOS releases, though, which may have prompted Apple to push new iOS 12 features into 2019 and focus on making iOS run better instead. Considering how important a smartphone is to many people and how much they rely on it to hold their personal data and stay connected to the world, focusing on improving iOS performance may not be a bad idea.
