LG Pay finally launched in mid-2017, more than a year and a half after being confirmed. At the time, the service was only live in South Korea, but soon LG's mobile payment service become available in another major country.

LG Pay will launch in the U.S. in the first half of 2018. LG confirmed the news to Yonhap News Agency, adding that it's considering naming the service LG Wallet when it arrives stateside.

The company plans to offer LG Pay to the flagship LG G7 and LG V40 first and then expand it to mid-range phones in 2019.

LG Pay utilizes Wireless Magnetic Communication technology, meaning that you can pay by tapping your phone to traditional credit card terminals. Samsung Pay uses a similar technology, but Apple Pay and Google Pay rely on NFC for mobile payments, so LG Pay could have a leg up on those services when it arrives in the U.S. Considering how late LG Pay will be to the U.S., that leg up will be good to have.

How often do you make mobile payments with your phone?
