Verizon Galaxy S8 and S8+ now receiving Android 8.0 Oreo update

Samsung Galaxy S8 hands-on video

With the Galaxy S9 launching tomorrow, Samsung's new flagship is firmly in the smartphone spotlight. There's some good news today for owners of last year's Samsung Galaxy S8, though.

Verizon is now pushing Android 8.0 Oreo to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. The update for the Galaxy S8 is version G950USQU2CRB9 while the Galaxy S8+ is getting version G955USQU2CRB9.

As for what's new, Verizon S8 and S8+ owners can expect Oreo goodies like picture-in-picture, notification dots to help you see apps on your home screen that have alerts for you, the Samsung Experience 9.0, and the February 2018 Android security patches. You can find Verizon's update support pages for the S8 and S8+ here and here.

These updates typically go out in waves, and so because this update just starting going out over the air today, it may take some time before it hits your device. If you've got a Verizon GS8 or GS8+ and feel like manually checking for your Oreo update, you can do so by going to Settings > System updates > Check for system updates.

It's exciting to see Samsung's Galaxy S8 and S8+ getting Oreo on Verizon, and hopefully this means that we'll begin seeing Android 8.0 hitting the S8 and S8+ on other carriers.

If you've got a Galaxy S8 or S8+ on Verizon, be sure to let us know when you get Android 8.0 Oreo!
